Eager to prove himself, Hawk’s teenage son Chaska is determined to learn how to shoot, even as his father resists watching him grow up too quickly. When the Ravaging tears through town and leaves Hawk injured, he is forced to grow up fast and take control to save his father’s life. 

As the doctor’s daughter and dedicated apprentice, Cora pairs traditional medicine with a deep fascination for ancient Dakota remedies. When the Ravaging infects her sister Charlotte, who is also her closest friend, Cora launches into a desperate race against time to create a cure. As the illness takes hold of Charlotte, Cora must battle her own grief and fight to survive while trying to save the person she loves most. 

Minerva’s youngest daughter and Cora’s sister, Charlotte has a stubborn streak and an adventurous spirit that tends to get her into trouble. Her appetite for taking risks backfires when one of her outings exposes her to the Ravaging.

Well-meaning and eager to please, deputy Newlie desperately wants to be good at the job, but law enforcement just doesn’t come naturally to him. He repeatedly fumbles his duties, providing comic relief through his clumsy attempts to serve the town. He is pushed to the limit when Marshall Jeremiah decides to eradicate the infection by executing the sick.
